As the industries’ trend towards offering different kinds of ancillary services continues, airlines and tour operators are looking for new distribution opportunities beyond seat reservations and excess baggage.

An attractive way for enhancing customer experience, as well as developing new markets, is the introduction of an online duty free shop. “The board-shop concept fits perfectly to the idea of a one-stop-shop.” Willy Gielen, managing director of quintessence consulting explains. “The customer can select seats, declare special service requests, and order typical board-shop products within the same web booking engine.”

The airline benefits from knowing in advance which products need to be available on board. This helps to establish a more sophisticated purchasing plan, saving avoidable weight on the aircraft.

The new web solution is based on the feature-rich ‘KRONOS Ancillary Services’, a sales platform for seat reservation and ancillary sales. With the latest version, quintessence consulting makes a further step towards a broad variety of services for airlines. By taking advantage of the additional module ‘Concierge’, even tour operators can benefit from ancillary service sales in agreement with the airline.

The partnership between Lauda Air and quintessence started with the allotment handling system MIDGARD, back in 2005. After several years of successful cooperation, Lauda decided to acquire EOS, currently branded as KRONOS Passenger Handling, to cover its needs in the passenger handling area.
